Nutrition Matters

The saying “Fitness is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise” is very precise. You cannot out run your fork!!One pound of body fat is equal to 3,500 calories. In order to lose one pound of fat per week, you will need to cut down on 500 calories per day. (500 calories x 7 days a week = 3,500 calories = 1 pound of body fat.)

On the other side of fitness, to burn 500 additional calories per day you would need to do some major cardio. You can use this website (http://calorielab.com/burned/) to determine a rough estimate of how many calories you would burn from doing different activities. For me, running 5 mph (12 minute mile) for one full hour, I would only burn 399 calories. This is just an estimate!

Many people say that they don't have time to workout every single day. But you can make time to watch your calories every single day. You can use a food diary app such as My Fitness Pal and you can learn to plan your meals ahead of time so that you stay under your daily calorie limit.

Exercise is important so don't get me wrong! Physical activity has many benefits including more energy throughout the day, decrease in stress and anxiety, improved sleep, enhanced immunity, lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers, and stronger bones!

You can't eat a cheeseburger and fries and expect to work that off in a day. It is much easier to watch your calorie intake on most days (we all need a cheat now and then) and get moderate exercise on most days.
